THE CHALLENGE

Many schools in Njombe region face significant socio-economic challenges, primarily driven by inadequate funding and poor infrastructure. Without reliable access to clean water or proper sanitation facilities, students are at higher risk of illness, which directly impacts their attendance and educational performance.

OUR APPROACH

SHIPO is implementing a holistic solution that goes beyond just construction. We are building infrastructure while simultaneously fostering a culture of health and ownership within the community.

1. Infrastructure Development

We are constructing essential water facilities, including a rainwater harvesting tank at Igeleheza Primary School. These facilities will provide a reliable source of clean water for students and staff throughout the year.

2. Hygiene Education

Infrastructure is only effective when paired with knowledge. We are conducting workshops and training sessions for students, teachers, and community members. These programs focus on adopting proper hygiene practices that lead to better long-term health outcomes.

3. Community-Led Sustainability

To ensure these facilities last, we are involving the community from day one. Through participatory planning sessions, parents and residents are engaged in the design, construction, and future maintenance of the infrastructure. This approach builds local ownership and ensures the project remains sustainable without ongoing external support.
